Matt Murdock is trying to rehabilitate several notable supervillains, including Venom's offspring Agony, in a preview of Daredevil #6.

Written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Rafael De Latorre, the upcoming issue continues the story of Matt and Elektra Natchios' journey to form their own army, the Fist, and bring down the Hand, an evil ninja organization in the Marvel Universe. In the prior issue, Matt and Elektra broke into the Myrmidon prison and recruited the deadly villains confined there. This roster includes the murderous alien symbiote Agony, now out of prison for the first time since the events of Devil's Reign.

Agony was created by David Michelinie and Ron Lim, first appearing within the pages of Venom: Lethal Protector #4 in 1993. A member of the Klyntar, a parasitic alien species that encompasses Venom and Carnage, Agony was one of five symbiotes born when an organization known as the Life Foundation hatched "seeds" from Venom and bonded the resulting life forms to hosts. Together with its "siblings" -- Scream, Lasher, Riot and Phage -- Agony was initially an agent of the Life Foundation before the creatures merged into a single symbiote called Hybrid, but they have since separated.

Agony Has Now Worked for Daredevil, Kingpin and Carnage

Since regaining its autonomy, the creature has been involved in a number of Marvel storylines, most recently appearing as a member of the Kingpin's Thunderbolts roster during Devil's Reign. Before that, Agony and the symbiote's siblings were involved in the Extreme Carnage event, which saw Carnage return with a new mission to hold all of his siblings and offspring under his thumb. The preview shows that Agony is quick to lash out, doing so simply because someone was talking, so how Daredevil may rehabilitate Agony and the other freed villains remains to be seen.

Along with Agony, the preview shows that other freed super-criminals Daredevil hopes to reform are the mercenary Fancy Dan, Spider-Man foe Speed Demon and long-legged larcenist Stilt-Man. The next chapter of Daredevil's "The Red Fist Saga" arc follows up on Matt and Elektra's prison break, with the Myrmidon's prisoners now residing in the Fist's stronghold. The raid on the Myrmidon saw Matt fight John Walker aka the U.S. Agent and draw the attention of Avengers Iron Man and Captain America, who now seek to arrest their former ally.
