With Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirming Charlie Cox will be the actor behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Daredevil, many superhero fans are wondering if the Marvel/Netflix shows are officially part of the MCU canon. Steven DeKnight, the showrunner for Season 1 of Daredevil, has an answer, but it might not be what fans are looking for.Responding to a question on Twitter, DeKnight explained he has no idea if his Daredevil and the other Defenders are included in the MCU continuity. Whether or not the pre-Disney+ shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Runaways, Clock and Dagger, The Punisher and of course Daredevil are canonically part of the MCU has been the topic of passionate debate recently. While Feige suggested in a previous interview that they didn't exist in the same continuity, fans have pointed out the multiverse concept established in Loki opens the doors for the shows to be brought into the fold.RELATED: Why Marvel's Most-Hated Netflix Hero Replaced Matt Murdock as Daredevil

The first season of Netflix's Daredevil premiered on the streaming service in spring 2015 and received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. The season also received recognition from prominent awards institutions -- it was nominated for Outstanding Main Title Design, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series and Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys and Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The creative team for the first season of Daredevil included composer John Paesano (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), cinematographer Matthew J. Lloyd (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and editor Jonathan Chibnail (The Boys, The Defenders). Beyond Cox, the first season of Daredevil starred Rosario Dawson (The Mandalorian, Space Jam: A New Legacy) as Claire Temple, Deborah Ann Woll (Escape Room, True Blood) as Karen Page and Elden Henson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2) as Foggy Nelson.

Another character from Netflix's Daredevil may be reemerging as part of the MCU. Vincent D'Onofrio blew fans and critics away with his depiction of Kingpin, quickly becoming a fan favorite, and rumors suggest he will appear as an antagonist in Disney+'s newest series Hawkeye. While the actor himself has debunked the rumors, he also has a tendency to troll fans, teasing a possible appearance.

The first four episodes of Hawkeye are currently available to stream on Disney+ with new episodes premiering on Wednesdays. All three seasons of Daredevil are watchable on Netflix alongside Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.
