WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil Annual #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Manuel Garcia, Le Beau Underwood, Chris Mooneyham, Rachelle Rosenberg and VC's Clayton Cowles, available now.

In Daredevil Annual #1, the new secret history of Mike Murdock, Matt's twin brother, was revealed. Previously an identity made up by Matt Murdock, Mike now exists because of Reader, an Inhuman with the ability to make anything that he reads manifest itself into reality. While assisting Daredevil, the Inhuman read a file that mentioned Mike Murdock, a fake persona Matt took on to make people believe his fictional brother was Daredevil instead of himself. Matt set up Mike's "death" to clear himself from suspicion. In Charles Soule and Phil Noto's Daredevil #608, Reader tried to help Matt erase the newly created Mike from existence, but Matt decided at the last minute not to erase his new brother and let him go.

Afterwards, Mike sought the help and protection of Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. As he told Kingpin, he is smart, has no morals, and could be an asset if Kingpin helps protect him. While Fisk wouldn't comment, he sent Parker Robbins, The Hood, to recruit Matt into his gang, and the once non-existent Murdock twin started a life of crime.

In Daredevil Annual #1, Mike and The Hood are seen working well together, pulling off significant heists and making a significant amount of money. However, it appears that Mike is playing more than one side of the fence. While he blamed Matt Murdock for almost erasing him and went to Kingpin for help, he isn't loyal to The Hood or Fisk. Mike learned the combination to The Hood's safe and stole the Asgardian Norn Stone, which allowed him to rewrite reality. Mike used the stone to change the past, making himself Matt's real twin brother.

In one fell swoop, Mike Murdock gained a lifetime of history. He was now the person unintentionally responsible for his father's murder, and historically became the bad seed opposite of his brother. With Jack's connection to the world of crime, it is clear that Mike is moving further into that role as opposed to his brother, who remained on the straight and narrow. This fact is something that will come into play as Matt and Mike try to work out their new relationship.

Daredevil Mike Murdock and Butch Fisk

On the final page of Daredevil Annual #1 things become slightly more complicated. When Mike created a new history for himself he also brought into existence his longtime partner in crime, Butch Fisk, the son of the Kingpin. Prior to Mike's rewriting of history, the Kingpin only had one son, Richard, who is now deceased.

With Wilson Fisk now the Mayor and the Owl in prison, there is an opening in Hell's Kitchen criminal underworld that Mike and his partner are looking to fill. With the young men making plans to establish their own criminal empire, the duo are already working themselves into position to become a new adversarial force in the life of Hell's Kitchen's Guardian Devil...and one he was partially responsible for creating.
