It's been about two weeks since it was announced Emmy-nominee Vincent D’Onofrio would reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin on Marvel’s Daredevil television series on Netflix. Now, the actor has confirmed he's already back to work on the hit series' third season, as he's indicated readings are underway for the highly-anticipated 2018 Marvel-Netflix offering.

D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk was the central antagonist of Daredevil: Season 1, and subsequently made an appearance (in prison) in the second season of the Marvel Comics-based show. Upon the announcement of D'Onofrio's return as Fisk, executive producer and Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb said, “Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk.”

Recently, Daredevil: Season 1 showrunner, and Pacific Rim Uprising director, Steven S. DeKnight indicated he'd like to do a six-episode Kingpin miniseries with D'Onofrio, based on the "Return of the King" comic book arc. Written by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by Michael Lark and David Aja, the story saw Fisk return from abroad to avenge the deaths of his love interest and her children. The series saw an unlikely team-up between Kingpin and Daredevil as they sought to take down Lady Bullseye and The Hand.

When Daredevil returns for its third season it'll be headed by a new showrunner in Erik Olsen of Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle and Arrow fame. “We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner," Loeb said in a statement.

The Defenders‘ end scenes seemed to indicate that the third season of Daredevil could borrow elements from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's 1980s comic book epic “Born Again,” the seminal story arc in which Kingpin learns Matt Murdock’s secret identity and systematically dismantles his life. If that’s the case, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk will obviously have a big role to play in the upcoming season.
