Devil's Reign brings chaos to New York City once again in a new preview for this winter's Daredevil event from Marvel Comics.

The preview was posted on social media by Daredevil artist Marco Checchetto. The artist's tenure on the latest series for the man without fear began alongside writer Chip Zdarsky with 2019's Daredevil #1, the series building up to the latest Marvel event. As seen in the preview, the mayor of New York City and Kingpin of crime, Wilson Fisk, will go to war with Daredevil and all of Earth's mightiest heroes in the limited series.

The last Daredevil-centric Marvel event was 2010's Shadowland limited series, with tie-ins featuring many other New York-based heroes. The event featured Daredevil as the main antagonist in a storyline that saw the hero fall from grace as the leader of The Hand, a ninja criminal organization. Daredevil was possessed by "The Beast" of The Hand, whose power radiated across and plunged New York's citizens into a violent rage, turning on one another. Heroes (and antiheroes) that teamed up to stop Daredevil's madness included the likes of Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, the Punisher and others.

The upcoming event will differ from the 2010 story by expanding the roster of heroes that will fight against Kingpin's oppression, who seems to be completely back to his villainous ways with a more regal look from his past, diamond cane in hand. The preview and cover tease that this time around, Avengers like Captain America and Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and various Spider heroes will be joining forces against Fisk and his new vendetta against all heroes. At the center of his spite will be Marvel's two Daredevils: Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios.

This is another example of New York being unable to catch a break from the villains of Marvel. The city was the main focal point of this past year's King in Black event, engulfing the city in symbiotes, celestials and alien dragons as the symbiote god Knull sought to conquer the planet. Of course, the city has been under attack many other instances in recent time as well, like in Daredevil #19 and #20, which saw the money-hungry Stromwyn siblings let various villains loose against the city to level it to the ground.

Daredevil #20 included a team-up between Daredevil and Kingpin, loosely allied by their love for the city, though it would not last beyond the issue. In the preview and solicitation below, it is very clear that the two have returned to their regular status quo.

The cover to Devil's Reign #1 shows Kingpin looming over Marvel's heroes.
