With Spider-Man: No Way Home playing in theaters, comic book writer Chip Zdarksy decided to have a little holiday fun and reimagine one of Peter Parker's greatest tragedies in fan art for the film.

Sent out through the writer-artist's newsletter, Zdarksy starts the letter titled "Merry Christmas" off by writing, "I haven't seen No Way Home, so this probably isn't a spoiler?" Readers are then treated to three art slides featuring Spider-Man's Uncle Ben, whose death is the driving force behind Peter's choice to become the web-slinger because "with great power, there must also come great responsibility." In the comic strip, Uncle Ben's harrowing death is recreated with Ben arriving through a sling ring portal from Doctor Strange, as well as each depiction of his killer, who all jointly repeat their brutal crime.

Spider-Man's Uncle Ben enters the MCU through a sling ring portal from Doctor Strange.
Every depiction of Uncle Ben's killer from Spider-Man media fire their guns from portals.
Uncle Ben is shot -- again.

The Uncle Ben shown seems to be the version from Marvel Comics that first appeared alongside Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15, an issue that broke comic book sale records with a copy that holds a 9.6 CGC rating being sold for $3.6 million. One of the three gunman featured appears to be Ben's murderer from the comic issue as well, with the other two serving as clear depictions of the killers from Spider-Man live-action films. These two include actor Michael Papajohn's and Leif Gantvoort's portrayals in Spider-Man (2002) and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), respectively.

Technically, Spider-Man 3 retconned Uncle Ben's death to be an indirect action by Papajohn's character, who bumped into Flint Marko aka Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) while talking to Ben, causing Marko to pull the trigger of his gun and shoot Ben. Zdarksy's artwork serves as a depiction of how the characters might have entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, which featured the return of Church's Sandman and other Spider-Man villains, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Dr. Otto Octavius, Jamie Foxx's Electro and Rhys Ifans' Lizard. So far in the MCU, the Uncle Ben for actor Tom Holland's Spider-Man has only been directly referenced in a namedrop during an episode of What If...? on Disney+.

Aside from art, Zdarksy is the writer who led the ongoing Daredevil series for 36 issues, which has now culminated in an event that he currently helms alongside artist Marco Checchetto: Devil's Reign. The event sees New York City plunged into chaos as Mayor Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin wages war on the city's heroes to satisfy his vendetta against Daredevil. The series is set to be six issues long, with the first already available on shelves and digitally for purchase.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now showing exclusively in theaters, with Devil's Reign #2 set to release Dec. 29 from Marvel Comics.
