Daredevil star Charlie Cox gives his thanks to the #SaveDaredevil campaign for the hero's new Marvel Cinematic Universe series and all the fans' support over the years.

Cox caught up with The Hollywood Reporter after Marvel Studios gave a presentation at D23 Expo, during which Cox and Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio joined Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige onstage to discuss Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again show. After being asked about the fans who pushed for Daredevil's return, Cox shouted out the #SaveDaredevil campaign and expressed his gratitude.

"I feel like I owe them a huge 'Thank You,'" Cox said. "You know, the SaveDaredevil campaign, they campaigned so hard for this and there were times where I would meet some of them when they came to see a play that I was doing in New York, or my friends would follow them online and would tell me stuff that they're trying to do and raise awareness." The actor noted how he thought the campaign should throw in the towel at some point, continuing, "I would be there thinking, 'Guys, I think it's over. I think you need-- it's so nice, but I think we need to give up,' and they didn't and here we are."

The History of the #SaveDaredevil Campaign, Explained

About a month after Daredevil Season 3 released in Oct. 2018, the show was canceled on its former streaming home, Netflix, following behind the cancelations of Iron Fist and Luke Cage and coming before The Punisher and Jessica Jones followed suit. By early January 2019, the #SaveDaredevil campaign had already managed to score 100,000 signatures on its Change.org petition, with the online fan movement growing to see "Save Daredevil" on hats, t-shirts and across social media. During his interview, Cox referenced when he was starring in Betrayal on Broadway in 2019 alongside fellow MCU actor Tom Hiddleston, and was greeted by fans wearing "Save Daredevil" shirts after the show. Fans even got Hiddleston to say, "Save Daredevil" on camera.

Daredevil Is Saved and Will Be in Multiple MCU Projects

#SaveDaredevil began trending in Oct. 2021 with fans lamenting the three-year anniversary since Season 3's release, just two months before Cox would make his return as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and D'Onofrio's Kingpin would appear in Disney+'s Hawkeye series. Cox's blind lawyer/vigilante is also involved in the MCU's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo series, and will have his own series released in 2024, Daredevil: Born Again. First announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the show will star both Cox and D'Onofrio and run for 18 episodes.

All three seasons of Daredevil are available to stream on Disney+. Born Again does not have an official release date as of writing, but is slated to release during Spring 2024.
