In the wake of Daredevil's sudden cancellation late last month, it quickly became apparent that the people who worked on the Netflix series were as shocked as anyone to learn that the show would not be returning for a fourth season.

While the likes of series star Deborah Ann Woll and showrunner Erik Oleson already shared their thoughts on the end of the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe show, Charlie Cox, who portrayed Daredevil himself, has remained silent on the matter until now.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cox finally broke his silence, echoing the sentiments of his co-stars by explaining that he isn't quite ready to say goodbye to the character of Matt Murdock.

"I lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did," Cox shared. "The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I'm very saddened by that."

"It's just how business works. But also, these characters mean a lot to people," he continued. "It's weird to think there's a chance I won't be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That's a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years."

Cox went on to describe his experience on Daredevil as a dream job.

"I loved it," he said. "It's been just the most incredible job for me. It's so fun to do. You get to do all the acting, obviously, which is great, but then there's also this really fun physical aspect to it with all the stands and the fight choreography."

Although he was excited by the idea of another season, Cox wouldn't weigh in about Daredevil's on-screen future.

"I hate to be boring, but to be honest, I don't think I should answer that," Cox said. "It's so new, the news. It's quite painful for quite a lot of people. I was really excited about the ideas that were talked about for Season 4, and I think if I was to speculate about it and it went on the internet, it might not be very helpful to people," he continued. "Anything I say often gets picked up and circulated, and I just want to make sure I don't give any false hope."

With that said, Cox still made it clear that he would jump at the chance to reprise his role as Matt Murdock, should the opportunity present itself. "Oh my God, yeah. I don't know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again."

Marvel has already promised that the Man Without Fear would be returning at some point in the future. However, given the complex nature of their agreement with Netflix, it's unclear exactly how and when this will happen.

Now available on Netflix, Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Joanne Whalley as Sister Maggie, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter, Jay Ali as Rahul “Ray” Nadeem and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
