In "To Quote a Phrase," I spotlight memorable quotes from comic books.

I continue a month of "To Quote a Phrase" by spotlighting Bullseye's classic insult of Elektra in Daredevil #181 by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson.

As you likely know by now, when Frank Miller took over writing duties on Daredevil, he introduced Elektra to the comic book. Elektra was a former college girlfriend of Matt Murdock who was now one of the top assassins in the world. Meanwhile, Miller also began to develop an established villain, Bullseye, as well, and eventually Miller got to the point where Elektra became Kingpin's main assassin and Bullseye wanted that job.

In Daredevil #181, Elektra had been instructed to murder Foggy Nelson, Matt's best friend, but she refuses to do so. However, after letting Foggy go, she is attacked by Bullseye. The two have an epic fight, showcasing the brilliance of Miller and Janson...

Ultimately, though, Bullseye gets the advantage on Elektra and he explains it to her in a chilling, striking insult. "You're pretty good. But me? I'm magic" and then slices her throat with a playing card...

With Elektra now stunned, he takes her own sai and mortally wounds her...

He allows the dying Elektra to crawl to Matt Murdock's brownstone where she dies in Matt's arms...

Matt and Bullseye have an epic battle later in the issue, with Matt balancing his desire for revenge against his integrity as a superhero. It's brilliant stuff.

This whole issue was one of the most iconic comics in Marvel Comics history.

Okay, folks, if you care to suggest cool comic book quotes that you'd like to see spotlighted here, drop me a line at brianc@cbr.com. There's a decent enough chance that if you think the quote in question is super cool than I, too, will find it super cool and feature it here. Not a 100% chance, though, of course. Let's say roughly a 60% chance. I do need a whole month's worth of these quotes, after all!
