Welcome to Comic Book Legends Revealed! This is the seven hundred and seventy-first installment where we examine three comic book legends and determine whether they are true or false.

As usual, there will be three posts, one for each of the three legends. Click here for the first legend. Click here for the second legend.

NOTE: If my Twitter page hits 5,000 followers, I'll do a bonus edition of Comic Book Legends Revealed that week. Great deal, right? So go follow my Twitter page, Brian_Cronin!

COMIC LEGEND:

The Comics Code forced a change to Daredevil and Black Widow's living arrangements.

STATUS:

True

After her solo feature ended, Gerry Conway brought Black Widow into the pages of Daredevil...

Her first major arc is when she is accused of murder...

And Matt Murdock must defend her...

He succeeds in clearing her name and there is clearly a bond between the two...

She heads off to Europe but after she runs into some trouble, she sends for Matt...

And the two kiss for the first time...

By the end of the story, she knows that Matt is Daredevil...

When they arrive back in New York City in the following issue, however, Natasha is shocked by Matt's former fiancee, Karen Page, showing back up in New York...

By the end of the next issue, though, Karen and Matt are broken up for good, clearing the way for Matt and Natasha to be together...

They decide to get a fresh start by moving to San Francisco together in the following issue (Gene Colan has been doing the pencils for all of these stories, with various inkers)...

The two heroes are living together, but that's a tricky situation for an unmarried couple and Gerry Conway explained to Lex Carson in TwoMorrows' Back Issue #45 that Marvel had to get approval from the Comics Code Authority as to what would be an appropriate living arrangement for the two unmarried heroes to have if they were to live together and that set-up was written right into Daredevil #87, as Natasha explains to her chauffeur/mentor, Ivan, that he and Matt will share a floor while she has a floor to herself...

You have to love the machinations of the Comics Code!

Thanks to Lex Carson and Gerry Conway for the information!
