10-time Eisner-winning comic artist and painter Alex Ross shared his vision of a Wolverine movie starring Danny DeVito in the title role.Ross posted a fake poster for this movie, an older work of his illustrated decades ago as a gag, on Twitter, showcasing a black and white sketch of a younger Danny DeVito with Logan's hair part, mutton chop sideburns and Adamantium claws. The use of the billings block from Ridley Scott's original 1979 Alien, in combination with DeVito's more youthful appearance, implies this imagined movie would have been made in an alternate version of the 1970s, around the time of DeVito's breakout roles in the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and the TV show Taxi. DeVito is also drawn with significantly more muscle, implying he would have to bulk up for the role of Wolverine.RELATED: Wolverine: How Logan Lost One of His Claws in Marvel's Cosmic Future

Ross, whose most celebrated comics credits include Marvels with Kurt Busiek and DC's Kingdom Come with Mark Waid, is far from alone in thinking DeVito could have been great in the role of Wolverine. In 2019, a petition on Change.org addressed to Marvel with the headline "Have Danny DeVito play the rebooted Wolverine in the MCU" received over 61 thousand signatures. The reasoning behind this petition involved a mix of factors: some of it was trolling, some of it was genuine love for DeVito, some of it was a response to the failure of even more popular petitions to cast DeVito as Detective Pikachu in the Pokemon: Detective Pikachu movie and some of it was making a point that the 4'10" DeVito is closer in stature to the 5'3" Logan of the older X-Men comics than the 6'2" Hugh Jackman.

As long as DeVito is alive and kicking, expect fans to continue to fan-cast the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star in popular roles. Recently, his name came up on Twitter in connection to the voice cast of Illumination's upcoming animated Mario movie, with some arguing he would make a better choice for Mario than Chris Pratt while others want him to appear in the movie in another role such as Wario.

DeVito's upcoming projects include a Penguin comic story for Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1, on sale Nov. 30, as well as a sequel to the movie Twins.
