Rumors continue to circulate concerning actor Daniel Radcliffe and a potential role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as none other than the mutant Wolverine. These rumors have partially been fueled by the actor himself, though he recently admitted for a second time that it was mainly caused by boredom.

Speaking to GQ, Radcliffe explained, "It's purely a press tour rumor; I say something, and then occasionally I get bored of answering that way so I say something different, and that sets it off again. I should just never open my mouth."

It's an explanation he has offered before. Earlier this year, he spoke on The View to promote The Lost City, stating, "This is something that comes up every so often — because in the comics Wolverine is short, so every so often everyone’s like 'Who’s a short actor?' — but there’s never been any actual truth to it... Every so often I get bored of answering questions sensibly so I just make a joke like I did the other day, and that has sort of reignited the rumors a bit."

But these are not new rumors by any means. Fans have discussed Radcliffe for the role of Wolverine since as far back as 2019, only a few years after actor Hugh Jackman said his apparent farewell to the character in 2017's Logan. Of course, Jackman will be returning to the role one more time in the upcoming third instalment in the Deadpool film franchise, though this is not expected to last longer than a single film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Mutants

It is currently uncertain what Marvel Studios' plans for mutants are when it comes to the MCU. It has long teased the existence of mutants and the characters from Fox's X-Men franchise in one way or another. After WandaVision teased the return of actor Evan Peters as a version of Quicksilver, the franchise officially introduced mutants in the Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. This was after it was announced Deadpool would join the shared universe.

Marvel Studios president and chief creative officer Kevin Feige recently offered comment on the topic of the X-Men, assuring audiences that there is a plan for the team. When asked about it recently, Feige said, "That's what Jennifer Walters just asked the robot in the final episode of She-Hulk and I'll give you the same answer he gave, which is -- I don't remember, no answer is what I think he gave... But Deadpool and Wolverine [are both in the upcoming MCU instalment Deadpool 3], y'know, we're getting close."
