The cast of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues to grow, with the latest addition being Nope star Daniel Kaluuya.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Kaluuya will be providing the voice of none other than Spider-Punk, also known as Hobart "Hobie" Brown in Sony's highly-anticipated sequel film. Brown is described as a homeless teenager who becomes a hero to the oppressed citizens of New York in his universe.

Spider-Punk

It's been known for some time that Spider-Punk would make an appearance in the upcoming film. Audiences have gotten several looks at the character through merchandise images, confirming a comics-accurate costume and revealing details about his backstory.

Created by writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel, Hobart Brown's Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Punk, debuted in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man #10. The Spider-Man of Earth-138, Hobart gained his superpowers after he was bitten by a spider that was irradiated by President Norman Osborn's toxic waste dumping. Beyond the comics, the character has made several appeared only a couple of times, including in the Ultimate Spider-Man series and Marvel's Spider-Man on PlayStation, albeit as a skin.

The Spider-Verse's Wall-Crawlers

The animated Across the Spider-Verse, which was announced in 2019, has seen a variety of updates in recent days. Reports suggest the universe-hopping adventure will feature appearances by the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Peter Parker, with a live-action performance by Tom Holland; and the version of Spidey voiced by Yuri Lowenthal from Marvel's Spider-Man, Insomniac Games' critically-acclaimed PlayStation title.

This is just one of two sequels planned for 2018's widely-praised Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The upcoming Across the Spider-Verse will lead into Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled to release a year after. Details are still scarce, though it is known that Across the Spider-Verse will center on Miles Morales' battle against The Spot, voiced by Jason Schwartzman. While it's unknown what the supervillain's plans are, descriptions that have appeared on merchandise tease, "If [The Spot] can realize the true power of his [abilities], he could become a threat to [the] entire universe."

Miles certainly won't be alone in this fight. He will be joined by Spider-Man 2099, who appeared in the post-credit scene of Into the Spider-Verse and will once again be voiced by Oscar Isaac. Much like the film's other characters, Spider-Man 2099, or Miguel O'Hara, will have a comics-accurate background, involving an experiment gone wrong.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opens in theaters on June 2, 2023. A sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will release on March 29, 2024.
