Multiple sources are reporting today that Daniel Craig is in discussions to join the cast of David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
According to these sources, Craig's level of involvement comes in varying degrees. While The Wrap reports that the actor is "nearing a deal" for the lead role, Deadline Hollywood indicates that Craig is simply part of "the conversation" as he's "talking" to the right people at Sony.
Dragon Tattoo is based on the first book in a crime trilogy called the "Millennium Trilogy" from Swedish author Stieg Larsson, who died of a heart attack prior to the novel's release. The story focuses on a journalist who is hired by a wealthy industrialist to investigate the circumstances of his niece's disappearance nearly 40 years ago, leading to a series of shocking and disturbing events. The novel was already adapted for film in Sweden and released in the United States in March.
If hired, Craig would presumably sign on to play the journalist for all three of the trilogy's installments, just as director David Fincher has.
