Keanu Reeves has skyrocketed in popularity the year, in recent weeks especially, aided by the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum as well as his surprise appearance at E3 where it was revealed he will have a role in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 video game. It was then revealed that Marvel Studios has been in talks with the actor about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evidently, all they need is the right role for him.
Dan Slott, longtime Amazing Spider-Man writer and current Fantastic Four scribe, offered his suggestion on Twitter after acknowledging other characters fans have thrown out as possibilities. "I'm seeing lots of people saying Reed Richards, Adam Warlock, and Silver Surfer. My vote? Marc Spector: Moon Knight." Slott then briefly examined the character and its dramatic requirements, ending with, "that's your man for the job."
Although Moon Knight isn't a name mainstream audiences would necessarily recognize, Marc Spector has had a notable fanbase for decades, ever since his introduction in the '80s. The schizophrenic follower of the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu, captivated fans with his multifaceted personalities, violent methods and unpredictability. Those fans have been expressing a desire to see a live-action adaptation of the antihero for years.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated in the past the Moon Knight is being considered along with various other superheroes for an introduction into the MCU. In fact, the character was almost introduced on the small screen and might have appeared on Season 2 of the Netflix series, Iron Fist, but was put aside in favor of Typhoid Mary. With the character still free for adaptation, perhaps this could be Keanu Reeves' perfect introduction into the MCU. Only time will tell.
