Deadline reports that actor Dan Fogler has been cast in the upcoming "Harry Potter" spinoff film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," based on the book by J.K. Rowling, who also penned the script.

Fogler plays the non-magical Jacob, who meets and befriends Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander during the latter's research trip to New York.

Taking place about seventy years before the events of the Harry Potter saga, “Fantastic Beasts” takes place in New York City and follows the author of the eponymous Hogwarts textbook as he studies and documents the magical creatures of the world.

Direct by David Yates, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” arrives in theaters November 18, 2016.
