Former DC co-publisher Dan Didio has spoken about the issues with the New 52, as well as the biggest problem with the DC Rebirth initiative. During a Drink and Draw livestream alongside Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, Didio discussed where he felt the New 52 went wrong.

According to Didio, not as much time was spent on the second year of the New 52 as the first; "Probably my biggest regret is making things happen too quickly sometimes," Didio explained, "We spent a good six to eight months building the New 52. rethinking the characters, the designs, the villains, everything so that it made sense." The former co-publisher went on to say that he felt things began to move quicker and that less time and energy was being invested in development and improvements "or making changes to the characters that felt like it was worthy of a new direction for a line." Didio then stated, "Fans don't have a point of reference anymore and you feel the wheels falling off the cart."

Didio added later that when Rebirth came along, there was an opportunity to bring back missing elements from the DC Universe, "Unfortunately, once you put that in, you also put in the things that made you want to relaunch the line in the first place. The characters got stagnant again...the whole point of storytelling is change and evolution."

Didio recently left his position as DC's Co-Publisher this February, leaving Jim Lee as sole-publisher; the livestream was Didio's first public appearance since then.
