Abnett previously co-wrote the original 2006 comic event Annihilation with Andy Lanning. Its 2007 sequel Annihilation: Conquest introduced the modern incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy, inspiring the team's subsequent portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Abnett and Lanning later co-wrote other classic cosmic Marvel comic stories, including 2009's War of Kings and 2010's The Thanos Imperative, before the writing duo split and Abnett began writing for DC in 2011.

Dan Abnett and Paul Davidson's Annihilation: Scourge - Silver Surfer #1 is scheduled to go on sale this December from Marvel Comics.
