Damon Wayans Sr. will star as Roger Murtaugh in Fox's television reboot of "Lethal Weapon."
With the "In Living Color" veteran in place, The Hollywood Reporter says the project has now been picked up to pilot.
Announced in October, the update of the classic buddy-cop action franchise starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover hails from Warner Bros. Television. Utilizing a premise similar to that of the 1987 film, the series centers on Martin Riggs, a former Texas cop and Navy SEAL who moves to Los Angeles for a fresh start following the loss of his wife and baby. There, he's partnered with veteran LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh who, having recently suffered a minor heart attack, must avoid stress.
The role of Riggs, played in the films by Gibson, has yet to be cast.
The pilot is written by Matt Miller (“Chuck”), who will executive produce alongside Dan Lin.
