Damon Lindelof’s ‘The Leftovers’ Picked Up By HBO

Getting picked last in gym class was always a bummer, but can you imagine if you got left behind from heaven? That’s the concept behind Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers, a post-Rapture drama based on the novel by Tom Perrotta. According to TVLine, the show, which filmed a pilot earlier this year for HBO, has been picked up for series. Lindelof and Perrotta wrote the pilot, which was directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Battleship).

Justin Theroux (Six Feet Under) stars as Kevin Garvey, the police chief who tries to keep things moving along normally after a big chunk of the population up and disappears. Meanwhile, his wife Laurie (Judging Amy star Amy Brenneman) skips out on the family to join a cult that also wants to recruit Liv Tyler’s character. Emily Meade (Fringe), Max and Charlie Carver (Desperate Housewives) and Chris Zylka (The Secret Circle) will also star in the first, 10-episode season.

Lindelof and Berg will executive produce The Leftovers with the former shepherding things along as the showrunner.
