Damon Lindelof is heading back to television, and he's bringing Justin Theroux with him.

Vulture reports the actor/writer/director has been cast as the lead in The Leftovers, Lindelof's first small-screen venture since Lost ended in 2010. An adaptation of the novel by Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers centers on Earth after the Rapture, and all of the people who didn't make it to Heaven. Theroux plays Kevin Garvey, a police officer and father trying to keep the peace among those left behind. Easier said than done.

Theroux has had roles on TV shows Six Feet Under, The District and Parks and Recreation. He also played the devious wizard Leezar in the fantasy stoner-comedy Your Highness. On top of that, he's an accomplished writer and filmmaker; he wrote scripts for Iron Man 2 and Tropic Thunder. Recently, he was rumored for the starring role in Marvel's long-planned Doctor Strange, but no official news on that front just yet.

Peter Berg of Friday Night Lights fame is directing the Leftovers pilot.
