Canadian voice actor Dale Wilson, well-known for his various roles in Dragon Ball Z and numerous other anime dubs, has died at age 74.

The news was announced by Wilson's wife, Gail Wilson, in a recent social media post, which reads, "It is with an aching heart that I must tell you. Last evening Dale moved on from this Earthly existence. Having lived with metastasized prostate cancer and Parkinson's disease for many years, he was ready. He was my heart, my soul, my North Star. In the words of Bonnie Raitt, 'He taught me how to live….how to be myself……and how to give.' I know he has for many of you as well. And I know he treasured each one of you; his relatives, friends and fans."

Wilson is well-known to fans for providing the voice of Cell in the Ocean's English dub of Dragon Ball Z; however, he also played Kami, King Yemma, Android 8 and Goz. Additionally, the beloved voice actor has held roles in many other dubbed titles, including Clow Reed in Cardcaptor Sakura, Bunmei Muroto in Jin-Roh and Watsap in Black Lagoon. He is equally well-known among fans for his voice work in major North American cartoons, including G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero as Capt. Grid-Iron, Mutt, Overkill and Skydive, Street Fighter as Akuma and Mike Haggar, X-Men Evolution as Principal Kelly and Iron Man: Armored Adventures as Senator Robert Kelly, among others.

The post confirming Wilson's passing received an outpouring of love and condolences from his friends, loved ones and colleagues within the voice-acting space. Ian James Corlett, who voiced Goku in Dragon Ball Z's English dub, echoed Gail's words calling him a "North Star." Corlett added that "every working actor in Vancouver owes him a debt of gratitude," praising his work in organizing with UBCP (Union of British Columbia Performers), which helped secure important bargaining agreements in Canada.

Rest in peace, Dale Wilson.
