'Da Vinci's Demons' to End With Season 3

The upcoming third season of "Da Vinci's Demons" will be the last for the Starz series.

Created by David S. Goyer, the historical fantasy stars Tom Riley as Leonardo Da Vinci in a fictionalized account of the life of the artist and inventor. Entertainment Weekly reports that in the final season, Da Vinci will face his greatest challenge yet as the city of Otranto is attacked by Ottoman invaders who use his own inventions against him.

The cable channel announced the Season 3 renewal in May 2014, with John Shiban ("Hell on Wheels") replacing Goyer as showrunner.

"The steadfast fans of 'Da Vinci’s Demons' have been asking about the next installment of this story and we’re excited to roll it out," Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik said in statement. "David Goyer brought us a plan to portray the unknown early years of a genius and we think the fans will enjoy this final chapter which segues into the da Vinci that history knows. John Shiban has done a tremendous job of building on past seasons and by showing how da Vinci matures as his challenges grow.”

The final season premieres Oct. 24 on Starz.
