How Did Cyclops' Dad Come Back to Life?

In Death is not the End, we spotlight the outlandish explanations for comic book characters (mostly super-villains) surviving seeming certain death. Today, we see how Cyclops' human father, Corsair, somehow was brought back to life.

I did this as an Abandoned Love years ago, so this is basically a regurgitation of that one.

Christopher Summers was the father of both Scott Summers and Alex Summers, the heroes known as Cyclops and Havok. Christopher and Scott and Alex's mother were long believed to be dead, but eventually we learned that they had been kidnapped by the Shi'ar. Katharine was murdered by the Shi'ar Emperor (not before he raped her and impregnated her with Scott and Alex's half-brother, Gabriel Summers) and Christopher was imprisoned to work as a slave for the Shi'ar. He and some other slaves broke free and became the space pirates known as the Starjammers...

In a really weird story, we learned that Gabriel had actually been a brief member of the X-Men but had seemingly been killed on his first mission. Professor X erased the memory of Cyclops meeting his half-brother from Cyclops' mind. Years later, Gabriel was revived by all of the mutant energy released at the end of House of M when Scarlet Witch erased most of the world's mutants from existing.

Gabriel, whose name was Vulcan, attacked the X-Men but then he decided to go into outer space and get his revenge on the Shi'ar. Since he was the son of the former emperor of the Shi'ar Empire, he figured that HE should be the new emperor, which is exactly what happened. First, he helped the mad emperor take the throne again. Meanwhile, a group of X-Men led by Professor X and Alex Summers headed into outer space to stop Vulcan. The Starjammers helped him, as well, so father and son teamed up.

In Uncanny X-Men #486, the conclusion to "The Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire" by Ed Brubaker, Billy Tan and Danny Miki, Vulcan had just taken over the Shi'ar Empire by killing the mad Emperor who he helped take over the throne from Lilandra (she was the good Empress of the Shi'ar Empire, who helped turn them around from the jerks who killed Corsair's wife). Now it seemed to be Lilandra's turn...

Alex Summers took over as the new head of the Starjammers and a few X-Men remained behind to help fight Vulcan along with the other Starjammers.
