A nifty modder has replaced the sound effects of Cyberpunk 2077 with the ones featured in the recent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.

As per GamesRadar, modder Neurolepticer shared a creation on NexusMods for fans to download and use. The mod, titled Cyberware Sounds Overhaul, alters the sound effects of the player character's operating system and brings them in line with those heard in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series. The mod is compatible with the Berserk and Sandevistan cyberwares -- tech upgrades that grant the player more powerful abilities -- with an alternative version of the Berserk sounds currently in the works. The modder also plans to switch out Cyberpunk 2077's combat music and replace it with arrangements from the anime's intense battle scenes. The game's developer CD Projekt RED tweeted a link to the mod, describing it as "preem" (in-game slang for cool, great; derived from "premium") and encouraging fans to download it.

Cyberpunk 2077's Success After a Rocky Start

Cyberpunk 2077 has recently seen a considerable uptick in players, topping over one million daily and beating The Witcher 3's concurrent player record on Steam. Gamers have flocked to try Cyberpunk 2077 after watching the well-received Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix, both of which share the same neo-futurist Night City setting. A recent patch to the game, titled the Edgerunners update, adds correlating details from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners into Cyberpunk 2077 but, most importantly, addresses some of the game's major technical issues. CD Project RED quest director Paweł Sasko became emotional during a recent livestream when talking about Cyberpunk 2077's resurgence, saying the bounce back felt "unreal" and thanked players for giving the game a second chance.

Despite being one of the most anticipated games of 2020, critics savaged Cyberpunk 2077 upon its release for containing game-breaking bugs and its atrocious performance on the aging Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Yet, the game sold over 8 million copies on pre-order before it even launched, leading to a tidal wave of fans criticizing developer CD Project RED for misleading them about Cyberpunk 2077's scale and content. Because of the backlash, the company worked diligently to fix the game's various issues to restore player trust.

The company recently announced Cyberpunk 2077's first DLC expansion, due for release in 2023, though it said the expansion and all future content would only be available on PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. They also said the game's Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions would receive no future updates after the Edgerunner patch, essentially ceasing all support for the last-gen editions.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
