WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077's marketing lead gamers to believe that the dystopian sci-fi open world is filled to the brim with opportunities for action, and, for the most part, those gamers are correct. However, beneath the surface, CD Projekt Red has hidden a few nuggets of emotional realism. One of these moments is available early on in the game's second act following a big heist, which ended in Jackie’s untimely and devastating death.

Once the player is able to explore the open world again following several scripted sequences, they will receive several messages from potential quest givers and fixers in the area. If you choose to send Jackie's remains back to his family, one of these will come from his mother, Mama Welles. If you choose to do nothing, Delamain will elect to bring Jackie back to his family of his own accord.

Jackie Wells from Cyberpunk 2077

Mama Welles will ask you to call her, which results in a surprisingly pallid and sober conversation in what was up to this point a cybernetic action-laced kill-fest. She'll ask you to come to the memorial they've planned in Jackie's memory. Should you agree, Mama Welles will instruct you to find a memorable token to put on the ofrenda (a home altar from Mexican culture displaying offerings to the dead), and to come to El Coyote Cojo, the bar where those who selected the Street Kid background started the game.

Upon arriving at the bar, speak to Mama Welles; she'll give you the key to Jackie's garage in the alley behind the bar. There, you'll find Misty, Jackie's girlfriend. She'll tell V about how she has come to sit here for hours at a time every day since Jackie died. Speaking her her will give you the option to invite her inside to help you search for a piece for the ofrenda.

At this point, you'll be able to find some interesting items that help flesh out Jackie as a character. His weights, bike and girlie posters are all stereotypically masculine, but other items include a signed basketball, his father's belt and a bottle of tequila. However, the game ultimately points V towards Jackie's personal copy of Ernest Hemingway's novel For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Upon reentering the bar, take your seat and the funeral proceedings will begin with a story from Mama Welles about her departed son. It's a touching moment that can come almost immediately off the heels of one of the game's most exciting scenarios. Next, Viktor the ripperdoc gives an anecdote about how hard Jackie could hit, before setting a pair of boxing gloves on the ofrenda.

After that, a member from the Valentinos gang gets up and gives a statement from their boss, who is still in prison. Finally, V gets the option to say a few words. Make your choices, and then you'll get the option to either place the book or the belt on the ofrenda.

After the ofrenda is complete, speak to Mama Welles again. She'll offer you the keys to Jackie's most prized possession: his motorcycle. Accept, and you'll have access to the bike at the click of a button. In the end, Cyberpunk 2077 is filled to the brim with chaotic cybernetic action, but it's these quieter moments which give the game its emotional and narrative depth.
