Following the backlash of Cyberpunk 2077's buggy launch, CD Projekt Red has released a timeline for planned patches, DLC and next-gen updates.
CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński detailed the plans for post-launch improvements and "[presented] a path for Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and PC." Cyberpunk.net also included an image of the planned update roadmap, although specific dates were not included.
CD Projekt Red has already released three "hotfixes" to improve the game shortly after its launch, tackling some of its most glaring issues. These were only the initial steps of what the company has planned for salvaging the game, with a mix of frequent small and large patches to continuously tend to its flaws. The first major update was announced to be "dropping within 10 days" of the YouTube video, with another "more significant one" planned for the following weeks. Beyond these two previously announced updates, Iwiński reassured players that CD Projekt Red intends to continue further support.
Iwiński elaborated on other plans, such as the intended free DLC for the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game that saw the company achieve its esteemed reputation for open-world titles, also had free additional content shortly after its release in 2015. While the plan was to provide similar free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, that content has been postponed so the company can focus on the more pressing issues that need fixing. Even so, the free add-ons are still coming, but further down the 2021 roadmap.
As for additional free content, an important update many players have been eagerly awaiting is the intended release of the next-gen consoles upgrades. Unlike various other games released during the arrival of the latest consoles, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla or Spider-Man: Miles Morales, CD Projekt Red's game did not provide any enhanced versions for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. According to the roadmap, gamers can anticipate the upgrade later in 2021, with the company "aiming for the second half of the year."
Developed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC.
