Making good on her promise from last week, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist revealed her new Season 5 costume.

In a post on Instagram, Benoist shared a first look at the new Supergirl outfit. This year, she'll trade her signature skirt for a pair of pants. She captioned it simply with an emoji of a pair of pants and four exclamation points.

Benoist confirmed to Kevin Smith at Twitch Prime's Apex Legends Crown Cup that her character would don a pair of pants in order to fight crime. Asked about the costume change, she confirmed Supergirl will get the new look partly because it was impractical to shoot at night in freezing temperatures in a skirt. While Smith says he loves the current look, calling it "one of the greatest costumes in comics," he agreed that it was highly impractical.

As the two state in the interview, this isn't a sudden change. Last season, Red Daughter -- who wears similar costume but with a pair of pants -- mocked Supergirl's fashion choices. There is an awareness within the universe about the impracticality of fighting evil in a skirt. So it appears that some time during the next season, Supergirl will take note from her former Russian adversary, hopefully helping the actor's experience on set.

Returning Sunday, October 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
