After passing on The Lost Boys this past May, The CW has moved ahead with retooling the pilot. Along with reworking the pilot, the network has also released most of the cast, save for Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro, both of whom were involved with the original pilot.

Per Deadline, Rahimi and Shapiro will co-star in the new pilot, which is expected to begin production by year's end. The Lost Boys has been a priority for Warner Bros. Television and The CW. However, the first pilot was not as well received as its script -- from writer Heather Mitchell -- by CW brass. The trade reports that part of the problem was certain elements that did not work in the plot beyond simply the execution -- one issue being the casting.

This has led to the decision to re-cast the new pilot, with the exception of Rahimi and Shapiro. The previously announced cast on the rejected pilot included Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey and Kiele Sanchez (Kingdom), both of whom have since been released from their options. Shapiro will play David, portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland in the 1987 film, while Rahimi plays Stella, which is a take on the character previously played by Jami Gertz.

Twilight and Lords of Dogtown director Catherine Hardwicke helmed the initial pilot. It remains to be seen if she will return for the retooled pilot.
