Social media connection is important to the network, according to The Drum, which notes "The CW has 1.9 million Instagram followers, 1 million Twitter followers and has started advertising on TikTok." Its Social Directory page provides fans with links and hashtags for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and Pinterest for all of its shows and streaming services, providing ways for fans to reach several actors, producers, showrunners and executives.

The CW features LGBTQ+ characters on many of its shows, including Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow and Riverdale, but not without controversy. Ruby Rose, an out actor who starred in Batwoman, quit Twitter shortly after her casting in 2018 because of fan backlash. Former Supergirl star Mechad Brooks, in support of Black Lives Matter, revealed he got death threats after he kissed Katie McGrath in Season 3. His co-star, Chyler Leigh, received different treatment when she publicly came out earlier this month; fans gave her love and support.

In its tweet, The CW stated, "Words matter. So does action. We can do more. We will do more."
