Cult Videogame MYST To Become Movie

It was one of the first massively successful videogames, spawning multiple sequels, and now – nearly two decades after its release – MYST will be spreading to movie theaters near you, soon.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Chronicles of Narnia producers Hunt Lowry and Mark Johnson have secured the movie rights to Cyan Worlds’ game, and plan to work with Adrian Vanderbosch and Isaac Testerman to make a movie that relies on existing material – in the spin-off novels as well as the games themselves – to reproduce the MYST experience. Vanderbosch explains:

Our aim with this project is to stretch the genres it operated within, much like the source material did. It is such an innovative property and by utilizing the novels as our primary resource, we have the opportunity to offer audiences the essence of MYST without being limited only to the famous island of the first game. Our focus has always been on creating an entirely new visual experience driven by engaging characters and an epic narrative.

The producers are currently looking for writers who’re up to the task of creating such a beast.
