Nick Perks drew this Santa/Superman piece. So how this works is that every day until Christmas Eve, you can click on the current day's Advent Calendar post and it'll have a story in it that is part of my countdown of the 24 Greatest Superman Christmas Comics ever told! And I'll add links to the previous days in each new installment.

And now for Day 21, #4 on the countdown is...

"Help!" from "Superman" #165, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by an All-Star collection of artistic talent.

The concept behind the story is that Superman is still reeling from the election of Lex Luthor as President of the United States while he also gives out Christmas presents to his Justice League teammates.

The first story is drawn by Humberto Ramos and Wayne Faucher and it has Superman give Plastic Man a box of rubber bands and Martian Manhunter a package of Choco cookies.

The second story is drawn by Rob Liefeld and Norm Rapmund and it has Superman give Aquaman a snow globe of Metropolis (to signify that there is a place for Aquaman on the surface).

The third story is drawn by Mike Wieringo amd Cam Smith and it has Superman give Green Lantern ring polish.

The fourth story is drawn by Art Adams, who draws one hell of a Flash...

The fifth story is drawn by Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund, and it has Superman give Wonder Woman a tiny Mjolnir, which I believe is a reference to the then-recent time that Wonder Woman and Superman spent hundreds of years together in a norse adventure.

The sixth story is drawn by Joe Madureira and Tim Townsend and it featured Superman and Batman...

It all ends with Clark and Lois on a trip to the Bottled City of Kandor, in a bit drawn by the book's regular artists, Ed McGuinness and Cam Smith.

I really liked the way that Loeb made this issue feel like a big deal and how he tied in the main "Superman" plot so well with a cute Christmas story. Good stuff.
