Death Note lives on with a new line of apparel from Crunchyroll.

The anime streamer revealed the latest additions to its Crunchyroll Exclusives line on its website. The collection includes two hoodies, one of which features a design of the series' central antihero Light Yagami, while the other hoodie also showcases his rival, the ace detective known only as L. The new collaboration also features a number of short and long-sleeved shirts featuring the show's logos and characters as well. As the name of the line implies, the new clothes are being sold exclusively through Crunchyroll's online store and will only be available for a limited time while supplies last.

Death Note was created in 2003 by writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata. The series centers on Light Yagami, an incredibly intelligent and idealistic teenager, who one day happens to find the Death Note, a supernatural book that allows its users to determine how and when a person will die by simply writing their name within its pages.

The supernatural thriller received widespread critical acclaim upon its release and was also one of the biggest commercial successes of its era, achieving a global circulation of more than 30 million copies. An anime adaptation was produced by One-Punch Man studio Madhouse in 2006. The series was also adapted into a live-action film by Netflix in 2017, which received an overwhelmingly negative reception from fans and critics alike. Creators Ohba and Obata later reunited for another manga series, Platinum End, which received an anime adaptation in 2001. Obata is also working on the upcoming Netflix anime Bubble. The artist created the character designs for the film, which is being directed by Attack on Titan's Tetsuro Araki and features a story by Madoka Magica creator Gen Urobuchi.

The new Death Note collection is just the latest in a number of limited-edition apparel lines that Crunchyroll has released in recent years. In 2021, the streaming company released clothing based on Jujutsu Kaisen, Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece.

Crunchyroll was founded in 2006 and originally streamed unlicensed, fansubbed content. The company went legit with officially licensed streams of Naruto in 2008, and has since grown into one of the most popular streaming platforms for anime in the world, with over 5 million paid subscribers and 120 million registered users. The company was purchased by tech conglomerate Sony in 2021. Funimation, which is also owned by Sony, recently announced that it is moving its content library over to Crunchyroll's platform, which will result in the largest streaming library of anime in the world.
