In addition to the trailer, the two companies also unveiled new production art and announced the cast and crew behind the anime. Animated by studio Production I.G. (Haikyuu!!, Psycho-Pass, Kuroko's Basketball,) Fena: Pirate Princess is an original anime created and directed by Kazuto Nakazawa. Nakazawa is the original creator and director of the supernatural thriller anime B: The Beginning and has previously directed episodes of the critically acclaimed Samurai Champloo. Regarding his new series, Nakazawa acknowledged that Fena: Pirate Princess owes its inspiration to shojo manga, affirming that although the anime prominently features action and adventure, it is "basically a love story."

Joining Nakazawa are Asako Kuboyama, who will write the screenplay, and Rui Kuroki, who will produce the series. Yuki Kajiura, who has composed soundtracks for high profile anime like Sword Art Online, the hugely successful Demon Slayer and Fate/Zero, will write the anime's score, with record label FlyingDog assisting with the music production.

Asami Seto (Chihayafuru, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai) will head up the main cast as the cheerful orphan Fena Houtman, and Ryota Suzuki (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Recovery of an MMO Junkie) will co-star as Fena's overprotective bodyguard. Rounding out the cast are Takahiro Sakurai (Berserk) as the handsome warrior Shitan, Aoi Yuki (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) as the blacksmith and riflewoman Karin, Gen Sato (Dr. Stone) and Ryota Osaka (Snow White with the Red Hair) as the twin warriors Enju and Kaede, Jun Osuka (The Prince of Tennis) as the group's cook Tsubaki, Shintaro Tanaka (B: The Beginning) as the kind-hearted brawler Makaba, Manabu Muraji (Kekkaishi) as the Houtman family's retired knight Salman and Hiroaki Hirata (One Piece) as Otto, Salman's fellow elderly knight.

Fena: Pirate Princess follows its titular protagonist, an orphan with few memories of her childhood, who has been raised as a servant in a brothel. After discovering the truth about her family, Fena flees her former life and becomes the captain of a group of samurai pirates. As she embarks on a journey to uncover more secrets about her family, Fena and her crew must avoid a deadly group of female pirates determined to catch her.
