Cruella isn't finished with the big screen just yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to Disney's live-action 101 Dalmatians prequel/spinoff film Cruella -- which stars Emma Stone as classic villain Cruella de Vil -- is currently in early development. Cruella director Craig Gillespie and co-screenwriter Tony McNamara are both expected to return for the new film.

News of a Cruella sequel being in the works comes as the film kicks off its second weekend at the box office. The film premiered simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on May 28. At the time of writing, Cruella has earned $48.5 million at the worldwide box office, with roughly $32.4 million of that being domestic. While Disney does not share its streaming numbers publicly, viewer-tracking application Samba TV estimates that Cruella has made an additional $20.57 million via Premier Access rentals thus far. The film has also been mostly well-received, currently holding a "Fresh" rating of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an audience score of 97%.

"We are very pleased with Cruella's box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date," a spokesperson for Disney said in an official statement. "The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A's in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film."

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, Joel Fry, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong. The film is currently available in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access.
