The most recent live-action film Disney offered was an upgrade over the disaster that was Mulan. Cruella had the benefit of not directly being tied to a beloved animated film. It also didn't take itself too seriously, often doing the exact opposite and becoming more of a comedy than it likely meant to be.

While a fun popcorn flick that carried with it a good Emma Stone performance, the film is littered with plot holes and moments that don't make any sense once viewers take a minute or two to think about them. In many ways, it's a Disney version of Fast & the Furious, another franchise that's fun when it's not thought about critically.

10 That Her Poliosis Goes Symmetrically Right Down The Middle Of Her Head

The reason given for Cruella's distinctive hair is poliosis, a disease that causes a decrease or absence of melanin in head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, or any other hairy area.

More often than not, the hair is affected in splotches or directly over the forehead to create a streak of white, akin to Rogue in X-men. It's never really explained why it symmetrically goes right down the middle of Cruella's head aside from the fact it's iconic to the character and looks cool.

9 Cruella's "Mom" Getting Pushed Over A Cliff By Dalmatians

In a scene that is as laughable reading as it is to see, Cruella's mother, Catherine, is seen arguing with the Baroness on a balcony over a tall cliff face. It looks like things are getting heated when the dalmatians that were chasing Cruella suddenly come barreling out the door and end up murdering Catherine by pushing her off the cliff.

Even if this was meant to be the reasoning for Cruella's hatred of dalmatians (it's not), the scene is utterly ridiculous. The Baroness should have been the one to do the deed, considering she's the villain of the movie.

8 Cruella Going To Live In London On Her Own Despite Still Being A Child

After the death of her mother, Cruella becomes an orphan. While alienated from her peers where they lived, staying there still sounds like a better plan than going to London, where she knows no one at all, and deciding to live there on her own.

Sure, she ends up meeting two street urchins, Jasper and Horace, but the whole decision doesn't make much sense for someone who was still a child at the time. It felt like she only managed to survive the move because the script wanted her to.

7 Dying Her Hair Red As An Adult Only To Revert Back To Her Natural Hair Color Less Than Thirty Minutes Later

Cruella trying to start a new life as Estella made sense, as did dying her hair red to mask who she was to the world since many would recognize her distinctive coloring. The problem is all of that gets thrown away quickly once she gets a job working for the Baroness.

How did Cruella even get her hair to return like it was so swiftly? She would have had to redye, which for normal people wouldn't be too much of an issue but having to do black on one side and white on the other feels like such a waste of time since it wasn't like the Baroness remembered her anyway.

6 Her Alter Ego Quickly Consuming Her Entire Life

Her abrupt switch into Cruella from Estella can be kind of jarring, but it's understandable since the Baroness killed her mother. What doesn't make sense is why she lives as the Alter ego away from the parties she crashes.

Why does she need to be Cruella when in her house or talking with her friends? It isn't like the Baroness has hidden cameras to make sure Cruella is who she says she is. It felt out of character and threw away all the development she had earlier in the movie.

5 How Did Cruella Create Burn-Away Dresses?

There's no denying that the first scene where Cruella burns away her initial dress to reveal a far better one beneath was eye-catching. It was the sort of extravagant display that would both upstage the Baroness and line up with the sort of person Cruella was.

Unfortunately, it makes no sense how something like that is possible. A dress could never burn away so seamlessly without leaving any markings on her or the dress beneath it. It's a rule of cool moment.

4 How Did The Baroness Not Realize Cruella Was The Same Person As Estella?

Cruella Baroness Dalmatians

The differences between Cruella and Estella are not that great. Her hair changed, and her skin tone is paler, but their face still looks the same. It's the age-old Clark Kent with glasses on a disguise that's never made sense in comics.

It can maybe be played off that the Baroness paid so little attention to her employees, but even that feels a little flimsy. She should have been able to put two and two together far quicker than she did.

3 Why Did The Baroness Ask John To Kill Cruella?

The reveal that the Baroness was actually Cruella's mother felt like it didn't have any build-up, but at least it's a common enough trope that it can be expected. The reasoning for Baroness getting rid of Estella is where things take a sharp turn into silliness. She wanted to focus on her career and ensure that she got the inheritance of her late husband.

She very easily could have done both with Estella getting watched by maids or nannies. Celebrities do that all the time. On top of that, how did the husband not notice she was pregnant in the first place? Wouldn't he wonder where the baby is?

2 Cruella Builds A Parachute Into Her Clothing Somehow

During the climax, Estella gets Baroness to push her off the balcony to her death in front of everyone there. While the ploy makes sense since it would ruin Baroness in more ways than one, the whole parachute in the skirt thing is a little far-fetched.

For one, how did she even know it'd work? All it'd take is one gust of wind, and she'd have splat right against the cliffside. Just because someone is good at making clothes doesn't mean they can pull off something like she did in the film.

1 The Movie Doesn't Lead Up To Her Becoming The Character From 101 Dalmations

Cruella De Vil 101 dalmations

The biggest 'what were they thinking' moment is that the whole movie feels like an alternate reality for another character. The movie is set up like a redemption story for Cruella rather than a way to lead into becoming the woman Glenn Close played in the live-action version of 101 Dalmatians.

It's a complete whiff in every sense of the word because she doesn't even hate dalmatians by the end of the movie, despite that being the main trait of her character.
