Disney's Live-Action Cruella Adds Cannes Best Actress Winner


Emily Beecham has joined the cast Disney's upcoming live-action 101 Dalmatians prequel Cruella.

According to Deadline, the 2019 Cannes Best Actress award winner will join previously announced stars Emma Stone (La La Land), Emma Thompson (Men in Black: International), Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai) and Joel Fry (Game of Thrones). Character details for everyone are currently being kept under wraps for everyone but Stone, who will play the eponymous villain.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), the film will tell the origin story of the classic 101 Dalmatians villain. While Disney has been tight-lipped about plot details, Cruella will take place before the events of 101 Dalmatians.

Beecham is a rising star from the United Kingdom. Her latest film, Little Joe, was picked up for U.S. distribution after wowing at the Cannes Film Festival. It was her performance in the sci-fi drama that earned her the title of Best Actress at this year's festival. She has also appeared in Into The Badlands and the Netflix sci-fi film Outside The Wire.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, Joel Fry and Emily Beecham. It is schedule to release on May 28, 2021.
