Official Press Release
TAMPA, FL., July 16, 2001 – CrossGen Comics has added another industry veteran to its growing roster with the hiring of James Rochelle as colorist of the November releasing title, Negation.
Rochelle started coloring comics in 1993 for WildStorm. There he not only colored every WildStorm book at one time or another, but he was responsible for training some of the industry’s best talents, including CrossGen’s own Laura DePuy and Justin Ponsor. During his career, Rochelle has also colored for Image Comics, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics. In 1997 he left WildStorm to begin a career as a texture artist in the video game industry. Since 1997 he has worked for Angel Studios and Presto Studios on such games as Myst III, Star Trek: Hidden Evil, and more. During his time in the video game industry, he continued to color comic books on a freelance basis, working most notably on Steam Punk for DC’s Cliffhanger imprint.
“It’s very exciting and reinvigorating to come into this type of work environment in the comic industry,” said Rochelle. “Working in the CrossGen studio will be just like working in the video game industry except that I’ll have an even greater say in what the final product looks like. I’m looking forward to that aspect most.”
Upon his arrival at CrossGen in August, Rochelle will handle the coloring of the monthly title, Negation, working over the pencils of Paul Pelletier. An announcement on the inker of the series is still forthcoming.
“Adding James to our existing talent pool is a definite plus for our side,” said CrossGen Art Director Brandon Peterson. “He’s a dedicated, hard-working industry veteran who not only brings a great attitude with him, but some of the best coloring skills in comics. If you believe that the person who taught Laura DePuy and Justin Ponsor is damn good himself, you are 100 percent correct!”
