Another somewhat forgotten horror property is getting an overdue resurrection. AMC, home to The Walking Dead, is bringing back Critters for an original series on Shudder, its streaming service devoted to horror, thrillers and sci-fi.

The series, called Critters: A New Binge, will be an eight-episode shortform series picking up with the hairy, carnivorous, insatiable aliens from the beloved film franchise. It is developed by Warner Bros. Television Group’s digital studio, Blue Ribbon Content, with Jordan Rubin and Jon and Al Kaplan -- creators of Zombeavers and The Drone.

Pursued by intergalactic bounty hunters, the Critters return to Earth on a secret mission and encounter lovelorn high schooler Christopher (Joey Morgan), his crush Dana (Stephi Chin-Salvo), his best friend Charlie (Bzhaun Rhoden) and his mom Veronica (Kirsten Robek), who harbors a dark secret. Gilbert Gottfried (Aladdin, Justice League Action) and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich) are also featured in the series.

“It’s been more than 30 years since the Critters first landed on the big screen, and we’re incredibly proud to bring this cult classic franchise back to fans," said Peter Girardi, alternative programming vice president at Warner Bros. Animation in a press release. "Shudder is the perfect platform for this fun, scary new take on everyone’s favorite, furry extraterrestrial threat. We are committed to delivering Shudder members the best horror content available and this time we are also bringing the laughs."

The Critters franchise started in 1986 with the release of the first movie, Critters, spawning three sequels. Part three starred a fresh and mostly unknown Leonardo DiCaprio. Critters: A New Binge will premiere in its entirety exclusively on Shudder in the U.S. on Mar. 21.
