Hit Dungeons & Dragons Live Play series Critical Role announces an animated Mighty Nein series on Prime video following the success of its hit show The Legend of Vox Machina.

Critical Role and Amazon Studios announced the Mighty Nein animated series as part of a multiyear exclusive deal with Prime Video for television and film projects. Mighty Nein features the same team behind The Legend of Vox Machina, including the animation studio Titmouse. Critical Role plans to continue to produce with its production company Metapigeon while developing multiple television, film and other content projects with other creatives based on content both related to and outside the Critical Role universe. Although Mighty Nein does not yet have a release date, the team confirmed production on the animated series begins soon.

Travis Willingham, one of the co-founders and the CEO of Critical Role, as well as the voice of Grog in The Legend of Vox Machina, expressed his enthusiasm for making the Mighty Nein animated series with Prime Video. "Critical Role's livestream campaigns are the spark that lit the flame for our worldwide audience," Willingham said. "Seeing the stories and characters from our first campaign come to life in The Legend of Vox Machina was a dream realized, and we are absolutely buzzing with excitement to do it again with Mighty Nein. But with today's announcement, we're confident that the stories we tell will keep expanding into realms of entertainment beyond what we can even imagine."

The Mighty Nein Animated Series Follows Vox Machina

A teaser for the Mighty Nein animated series reads, "Mighty Nein follows a group of criminals and misfits who are the only ones that can prevent the kingdom from plunging into chaos when an arcane artifact capable of reshaping reality falls into the wrong hands." The Mighty Nein featured as Campaign 2's Adventuring Party with the same principal cast as Campaign 1 and The Legend of Vox Machina. At the start of the adventure, The Mighty Nein consists of Jester Lavorre (Laura Bailey), Caleb Widogast (Liam O'Brien), Nott the Brave (Sam Riegal), Yasha Nydoorin (Ashley Johnson), Fjord Stone (Willingham), Beauregard "Beau" Lionett (Marisha Ray) and Mollymauk Tealeaf (Taliesin Jaffe). As with all major campaigns in Critical Role, Matt Mercer acts as Dungeon Master.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2

While the Mighty Nein animated series is in development, The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 began airing on Prime Video in January. The new season sees the Adventuring Party face off against the Chroma Conclave, a band of four ancient chromatic dragons bent on controlling Tal'Dorei. The first three episodes ended with a major Vox Machina hero's death, leaving much of the team adrift as fans wait to see what happens after the cliffhanger ending.

The Mighty Nein animated series does not yet have a release date. New episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina air every Friday in batches of three exclusively on Prime Video.
