Critical Role cast member Marisha Ray wished her costar, Sam Riegel, a not-so-smiley day in a cheeky exchange on social media ahead of the Dungeons & Dragons campaign's highly anticipated next installment.

Ray, dismissed from the game table after her character Laudna died during last week's session, posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Twitter that showed her flipping off the monitor as Riegel drank from his signature cartoonish canteen. Riegel adds rotating messages and inside jokes about the campaign on his oversized flask each week, and this past week's gag included an attempt to console Ray and Laudna fans.

On a sheet of printer paper, Riegel typed "it's gonna be OKAY," adding the desperate qualifiers "I think" and "I hope," alongside a box of tissues. With Campaign 3's adventuring party Bells Hells scrambling to find a way back for the fan-favorite Laudna, Riegel's sentiment has been echoed by many in the Critter community. However, fresh off her character's death, Ray could only offer a stern middle finger to Riegel, whose character Fresh Cut Grass already harbors a healthy fear of birds.

Riegel fired back on Twitter, writing, "Do I know you? Oh wait weren't you on the show for a while…?" While the social media back-and-forth between the two Dungeons & Dragons players was all in good fun, it may be the only source of banter between the two fans have until Ray returns to the table. The lingering question is whether Ray will rejoin the Bells Hells as Laudna or another character.

Keyleth, Ray's druid from Campaign 1's Vox Machina, still looms as a prominent figure in the world of Critical Role and has a connection to Liam O'Brien's current character, Orym of the Air Ashari. For this reason, Keyleth's name has been floated out among the Bells Hells as a possible path to save Laudna. Some fans have speculated that Ray will return to the table as Keyleth in the interim, as Laudna's fate still lies in the balance.

Only time will tell whether Ray will return as Laudna, Keyleth or an entirely new character, but it may take several episodes for fans to know for sure. With the most prominent character death of Campaign 2, it took a few episodes after Molly's demise for player Talison Jaffe to return, taking a new role as the druid Caduceus. Critical Role streams live on Twitch and YouTube, Thursdays at 7 PM PT.
