WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Four“ and ”Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 5," which aired Tuesday on The CW.

After the fight at the Dawn of Time, “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 5” sees Kara waking up back in a seemingly normal reality. Alex doesn’t seem to know that the world was just destroyed, and the only thing that seems to be bothering Nia is that Kara is late for the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize. It seems that the Paragon's attempt to recreate the multiverse was successful if a little jarring in how well it worked.

After Kara speeds to the presentation, however, she quickly realizes just how different things are now, and not all in good ways. As she still tries to come to terms with the recreation of her world, her life is turned upside down when the recipient of the prize turns out to be none other than Lex Luthor.

Yes, Lex Luthor, villain extraordinaire, has received a Nobel Peace Prize. Not only that, but he’s legitimately seen as the good guy. When Kara says that Luthor is a “psychopathic lunatic”, Alex is completely baffled. In the new Earth-Prime, Lex didn’t just con his way into winning a prize; he’s legitimately seen as a good guy by everyone.

Well, almost everyone. The Paragons know better, being the only ones who retain their memories from the previous multiverse. J’onn J’onzz helped catch some other characters up on what actually happened, but considering how few of them he could get to, to most of the world, Lex Luthor isn’t just a good guy - he’s the best guy.

This sets up some interesting conflict going forward in Supergirl. The best problems to throw at someone as powerful as Kara is something that she can’t just punch. The anti-alien sentiment that drove the story in Season 4 is a great example. Now, a driving force of Season 5 seems to be Lex's turn to the light. Kara and J’onn are the only characters on Supergirl, other than Lex, who know about his true nature. How can she go up against him, one of her biggest supporters (at least publicly)?

It’s not like Lex Luthor has just a thin veneer over his evil misdeeds to hide behind. By writing himself into the Book of Destiny, he was there to guide the creation of the new multiverse. He was the Paragon of Truth, so if he guides the world to think that he’s the best guy, then that’s the way things are going to be. This is a deception greater than just buying his great publicity, which would be the typical Lex Luthor plan. Presumably, his real history on this new Earth is that he really is that great of a guy, with no dirt to dig up to show his true intentions.

Even worse than him being a great guy, Lex is also now Kara’s boss. Supergirl catches on to Alex mentioning this, then notices that the DEO seal includes the words “A Luthorcorp Subsidiary”. This raises a number of questions for Supergirl moving forward, but the rest of Season 5 is sure to address this universal mess.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths," the latest five-show crossover between all the Arrowverse series, will soon be available on The CW's streaming service in its entirety.
