UPDATE 9/27/2019 at 1:31 pm PT: The CW has since released an official look at Brandon Routh's Kingdom Come Superman costume.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Brandon Routh's Superman -- again!

The Legends of Tomorrow star gave fans a first look at his return as Superman for the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover. "Returning soon; Stay tuned," he wrote in an Instagram post, which showed his silhouette with an iconic Superman curl.

Routh starred as the Man of Steel back in 2006's Superman Returns. For the crossover, he is slated to play Kingdom Come Superman, a more distraught and morally complicated version on the character.

Routh won't be the only Superman character in the crossover. Tom Welling and Erica Durance will reprise their Smallville roles for the massive crossover event. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will also appear as Superman and Lois Lane, reprising their roles from last year's Arrowverse crossover.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, December 8 at 8 pm ET/PT on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, December 8 at 8 pm ET/PT and in The Flash on Tuesday, December 10 at 8 pm ET/PT. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will conclude on Tuesday, January 14 in Arrow at 8 pm ET/PT and in DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 pm ET/PT.
