The Hero Initiative announced yesterday that in order to help artist Josh Medors continue fighting a rare form of cancer in his spinal column, they and Marvel have created a limited edition print featuring Medors’ recreation of the cover to Amazing Spider-Man #33. The print will be available at Medors’ hometown comic store, Packrat Comics (both online and at the physical location in Hilliard, Ohio) on Free Comic Book Day.

As McLauchlin points out on The Hero Initiative blog:

Keep in mind, and we really hope you get the gravity of this situation…Josh did all this with cancerous tumors in his spinal column. It being the spine, Josh is having some difficulties with and numbness in his extremities.

And he was still able to do all that!

Medors isn't the only comics creator though who needs to raise money for cancer right now. Jake Black, who co-wrote the Helen Slater story in Supergirl #50 (featuring a cover by Michael Turner, who died from complications related to bone cancer in 2008) as well as the magazine for Eaglemoss' Supergirl figurine and a Supergirl documentary overcame a fight with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but is now faced with $25,000 in medical bills.
