Crazy Ex-Girlfriend music producer Adam Schlesinger has succumbed to coronavirus (COVID-19) complications at the age of 52.

The musician died on the morning of April 1 after having reportedly been “very sick and heavily sedated” on March 31, according to his attorney Josh Grier. Grier mentioned that Schlesinger had been in an upstate New York hospital for more than a week before passing away.

Schlesinger served as executive music producer and songwriter for The CW musical comedy during the series run from 2015 to 2019, earning an Emmy Award and nine other nominations. Along with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, he wrote and scored television shows such as Saturday Night Live, Kingdom Hospital and Sesame Street.

Schlesinger dabbled in film and theater, writing songs for such fare as Music and Lyrics and Ice Age: Continental Drift. He earned Golden Globe and Academy Awards nominations for writing the title song for the 1997 Tom Hanks-helmed film That Thing You Do! He earned two Tony nominations for the Broadway musical Cry-Baby in 2008.

For all his work in film, television and theater, Schlesinger is best known as a co-founder of the power-pop band Fountains of Wayne. Founded in 1993, the group put out five studio albums, reaching their peak with 2003's Welcome Interstate Managers featuring the top 40 hit "Stacy's Mom." The group disbanded in 2013 after releasing their final album, Sky Full of Holes, in 2011.

He leaves behind two daughters. No memorial or burial plans have been announced due to the pandemic.
