There's a wild fan theory doing the rounds that suggests the official Avengers 4 countdown clock could also be a hint to when the movie's trailer will drop.
As fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe wait patiently for the Russo brothers to release a first look at Avengers 4, the theory guesses that the events of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War could offer a major clue. The Avengers: Infinity War trailer arrived in November 2017, and only recently, theorists posed that the trailer would drop on November 23 (Black Friday). Now, it looks like there's a new possible date for the trailer, at least if this admittedly out-there (but still super-fun) fan theory is somehow true.
Posting on Reddit, a fan by the name of Ethaniopia cleverly guessed that the Avengers 4 trailer will premiere on December 13. Remembering the words of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in Infinity War, the Sorcerer Supreme spoke about the 14,000,605 timelines where Earth's Mightiest Heroes took on Thanos and the 14,000,604 where they lost. Ethaniopia's theory suggests that the trailer will release when the Avengers 4 countdown clock reaches 140 days (relating to 14,000,605).
As it stands, the Avengers 4 countdown is on 161 days and Day 140 will be December 13. There's even more significance to December 13 thanks to Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse being released on the same day. Finally, December 13 is also the date of a big Chargers and Chiefs football game. As the post points out, the Iron Man 3 trailer dropped during the Super Bowl and the MCU has a history of airing trailers to a mass audience alongside big sporting events.
Some were left confused at why the Avengers 4 countdown clock is making the agonizing wait until the movie even worse, but Ethaniopia's theory might explain why. After the shocking climax of Infinity War, audiences are dying to see who is/isn't in the Avengers 4 trailer. Either way, the first look is bound to include some spoilerific clues to how the Russo Brothers intend on rounding off Phase 3 of the MCU. Although the first trailer is bound to keep plenty of the movie's big twists a secret, there's sure to be enough to keep people occupied for a while.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already promised that the first footage will debut before the end of 2018, so the December 13 theory certainly stacks up. While it's not like the MCU needs to hype Avengers 4 more than it already is, the trailer is sure to send the internet into meltdown when it eventually arrives. Currently, the Avengers 4 clock is slowly ticking toward the movie's May 3 release date, but only time will tell if the trailer theory comes true.
The untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 3, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, it stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
