Universal Pictures has picked up the film rights to Tracy Wolff's vampire young adult novel Crave.

According to Deadline, Universal SVP of Production Jeyun Munford and Creative Executive Christine Sun will oversee the project.

Crave is a paranormal fantasy that follows a human girl caught between two warring factions after meeting a vampire prince named Jaxon Vega, who's kept to himself for 100 years. As the two form a strong bond, though, Vega's inner monster threatens to tear their relationship apart.

The move to greenlight a new vampire project comes after the studio has decided to forge ahead with its cinematic monsters universe. While it's unclear if Crave will have anything to do with the Monsterverse, the project could strengthen the studio's horror portfolio after previous successes with The Invisible Man and Jordan Peele's Get Out.

Wolff is a former English professor and a New York Times bestselling author who's written 64 novels. Her latest book, Crave, is now on sale from Entangled Publishing.

At the time of this writing, no cast or crew are attached to the planned film adaptation of Crave.
