John Cho hopes the tone of the live-action Cowboy Bebop gets switched up for a possible Season 2, but he also wants more for Spike.
"I hope to get weirder and darker," Cho told Screen Rant. "I always hope that for some reason. I also really want Spike to be happy. This season was rough for him. I did feel a lot of sympathy pangs for him. So I hope he has a moment of happiness."
Despite Cho hoping for Spike to find a little joy after so much pain, he also admits that if Season 2 of Cowboy Bebop happens, it's likely still going to involve a lot of misery.
"I predict that it will be a tough road again," Cho continued. "However, I guess the only thing I could say is really abstract, which is: If this season was verse, chorus, verse, chorus, I'd like to hit the middle eight and do a little something unusual and unexpected."
Though the actor anticipates more turmoil, he clearly wants things to go in a different direction. Of course, it seems things will get weirder and darker if the show moves forward. The first season ended with Jet seemingly losing his daughter, Spike on his own and at rock bottom, and Vicious chained up. On the weird end, Spike finally meets Radical Ed (Eden Perkins), who is sure to bring plenty of chaotic energy to the show.
Not all things look bleak and bizarre, however, as Faye is currently on the search for more information on her past. Though things could turn dark, the mission at least seems like a hopeful one. Julia, meanwhile, ends the season in control of the Syndicate, a major improvement. But with Vicious still alive, things likely will go south at some point in the future.
There's been no word yet that the live-action adaptations will get renewed. Critics have been mixed on Cowboy Bebop, as have general viewers. But the end of Season 1 certainly sets up plenty of potential stories for Season 2.
Season 1 of Cowboy Bebop is now streaming on Netflix.
