Upon its debut, the show received mixed reviews with some critics praising its unique vision of the anime and compelling performances from the core cast. Others deemed the live-action version to be a hollow reimagining of the iconic anime, only capturing the surface-level appeal without diving into the heart of the story. According to aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Cowboy Bebop currently holds a critic score of 46% and an audience score of 54%.

Despite many social media users expressing their support for Netflix canceling the show, others were quick to remind viewers of the cast and a crew who lost their jobs. Star John Cho, who played Spike Spiegel, briefly issued a statement on the cancelation by tweeting out of GIF of Tom Selleck sadly saying, "I'm okay." The show's other starts have yet to formally issue statements.

Cowboy Bebop is a beloved anime that follows a gang of unlucky bounty hunters trying to survive in the far future. The series is almost universally beloved for its deep writing, compelling story beats, unique aesthetic and iconic soundtrack. Despite launching over a decade ago, it's widely regarded as one of the best animes of all time. Fans of the show can still watch the original anime on Netflix.
