Cosmo, Archie Comics' resident alien adventurer, is returning for a new limited series later this year. Cosmo the Mighty Martian launches in November.

Originally created by Bob White, the character of Cosmo made his debut in Archie Comics' sci-fi series Cosmo the Merry Martian back in the late 1950s. The short-lived comic ran for six issues from September 1958 to October 1959. The character remained mostly dormant for the following six decades, before being revived in 2018 for a five-part miniseries -- simply titled Cosmo -- from writer Ian Flynn and the artistic team of Tracy Yardley, Matt Herms and Jack Morelli.

Flynn, Yardley, Herms and Morelli have now reunited for a brand-new five-issue miniseries in Cosmo the Mighty Martian. The comic will see Cosmo and his friends embarking on a grand adventure through the solar system. Along the way, they will find themselves up against the likes of the battle princess known as Shih, not to mention the Queen of Venus herself -- who is planning an full-scale invasion of the cosmos.

"It’s both exciting and satisfying that Cosmo was so well received we get to continue his adventures,” Flynn told io9. "This time we have to go bigger and bolder. Cosmo volume one was a fun adventure where a crew of Martians (and one wayward human astronaut) discovered danger and mystery on the Moon. Cosmo the Mighty Martian will be building off of that and exploring even more of the Solar System.

"Cosmo was such a joy to write last time -- funny, adventurous, equal parts whimsy and drama," he continued. “And now I get to do it again, and more of it! You can’t go wrong."

"Working with Ian, Matt and Vin always means a good time for me and the readers," Yardley added. "Cosmo is one of the most creatively interesting projects I’ve ever done. I’m very grateful for the chance to do more of it."

Herms also chimed in on once again joining forces with the Cosmo creative team, stating, "I'm especially excited to be reuniting with Ian and Tracy. We've worked together for 10-plus years -- we're a pretty well-oiled machine. Nobody does fun and imaginative action adventure like Ian and Tracy.

"I'm overjoyed to be returning to these characters, and so excited to be exploring new worlds with them," Herms continued. "With a book like this, I get to create an all new palette for every planet Cosmo and company visit."
